Telecom Brands in India: Airtel, Hutch, Idea

They are all talking the same.

Zero product level differentiators. Zero service level differentiators. Near-zero service in anycase!

We need number portability in this country.

Period.

  1. You are right, there are no differentiators whatsoever. However, I had a pleasant communication from Airtel sometime back that I wrote about here: http://swadeshe.wordpress.com/2006/08/13/smart-sms-from-airtel-mumbai/

As for number portability — that works for low-growth, saturated markets — where the challenge before operators is to RETAIN subscribers. On the other hand, India currently is going through a high-growth phase, and the growth is coming entirely through new subscribers. For existing subscribers like you and me, the operators needn’t bother, as long as there are 100 others walking into get a new connection — in the time we write these posts 🙂

    I concur.

Might happen by the first quarter of 2008 as CDMA players are pushing for it.
